If you’d like to self-manage your renovation — or do as much of the work yourself as possible — these sessions give you the knowledge and structure to do it well. We cover whatever’s most useful for your project: arranging drawings, navigating the planning process, choosing sustainable materials, water-saving measures, writing a specification document, comparing builder quotes, and how to communicate clearly with your construction team during the build itself.

I prepare between sessions — reading anything you send me, including your Focus Questionnaire — so we use our time together as effectively as possible. Additional sessions can always be added if you need more time to get everything confidently planned.

It’s particularly well suited to homeowners considering a heat pump — because getting the fabric of the building right first is what makes a heat pump perform as it should, and what makes it worth the investment.

This report covers windows, insulation, ventilation and MVHR, heating, and summer overheating risks — giving you a complete picture of what your home can become and what it will take to get there. For most people, this is the first step in a full retrofit journey.

There are different ways to insulate an existing property, and the wrong choice can cause serious problems down the line — including the mould risks you may have read about. This service includes the PHPP calculations, a full technical specification, plans and section views of your home, and detailed drawings for each measure, so your builder has everything they need to carry out the work correctly.

If you’re also planning internal changes — reconfiguring rooms or spaces — it makes sense to complete that design work first, so the drawings don’t need extensive and costly revision later.

Whether it’s a hallway with nowhere to put coats and bags, a kitchen too small for the way you cook and entertain, or rooms that just feel wrong — often the answer isn’t more space, it’s better-used space. Extending without optimising first adds to your carbon footprint, uses garden space that could support biodiversity, and costs more than it needs to. Getting the layout right first can reduce the size of any extension needed, or remove the need for one altogether.

This service includes drawings, illustrations and visuals of the proposed changes, planning permission applications where needed, and a full set of builder drawings.

Building Regulations are the lowest bar required by law. Passive House is considered the highest quality standard available anywhere in the world — and the gap between the two is significant, in terms of comfort, running costs, and long-term value.

Research in the UK has shown that building to Passive House standard costs approximately 1% more overall. The energy savings more than cover that additional investment — and the comfort levels are something you really have to experience to fully appreciate.
